More on the 12/12/12/ Conference and Workshops:
In 2012 Eastwest Somatics Institute celebrates its 22nd Anniversary with an international conference, workshop, and retreat in St. George, Snow Canyon, and Zion National Park in Utah. The conference will feature archetypes of transformation. Keynote performance is by ESN President, Professor Catherine Schaeffer, on Paddle and Trickster. Keynote speaker is Jungian psychologist, Jeanne Schul, Ph.D., on Soma and Archetypal Transformation.
The first day will include presentations and workshops on archetypal imagery and somatics, but is open to other subjects as well. The second day will include a metamorphic journey through depth-movement & environmental dance led by Sondra Fraleigh and Jeanne Schul. Jeanne leads participants through Chakra Unwinding and meanings of the body. Sondra will facilitate Butoh inspired dance in Snow Canyon and St. George, using Yoshito Ohno's perspectives on bodymind oneness: inviting pain in every step, grieving as one, and healing.
Zion 12/12/12/ will include a day of reflective dance in the canyon and the big room of the lodge, and a late afternoon and evening of somatically conceived performances. Dinner out in nearby Spring Dale.
Reservations at Zion Lodge are through Eastwest and group discount. Participants can enjoy the majestic beauty of Zion canyon in winter, including comfortable accommodations at the Zion Lodge on 12/12/12.
Conference Sponsored by Eastwest Somatics Network, ESN President, Catherine Schaeffer. Kelly Ferris, ESN Administrator. Sondra Fraleigh, ESN advisor. Fraleigh's books on Butoh, and her original music CD's on Chakra Unwinding and Music for Choreography will be available at the conference.

Shin Somatics tutorials cultivate intention through flowing movement patterns, somatic yoga, non-interfering touch, music, and intrinsic dance. Butoh, the postmodern dance of Japan included in our work, re-members body as spirit, respecting beauty in awkwardness, pain, and humor. We call our butoh-influenced work "metamorphic dance."
Experience Depth-Movement Dance Therapy in Saint George; excavate body memories and possible-selves. Our work is objective, also recognizing the existence of interdependent energy fields of great potential and light. Compassionate connections are waiting to happen, alive in each moment of awareness. Practice Somatic Yoga and meditate in Snow Canyon. Feel the warmth and support of the soft sandstone. Experience the root chakra energy of the golden orange and burnt rose rocks. St. George is in the heart of color country southwest Utah. Miners have made a fortune from the metamorphic stone, and gem collectors gather treasures of healing stones.

12/12/12 Canyon Return: Archetypes of Transformation om 2012
Eastwest Somatics Network invites you to the brilliance of winter and 12/12/12/ in Zion National Park and the color country of St. George Utah. Register for conference and workshop together and save. Inquire to have conference call for presentations sent to you: eastwest@q.com. All topics concerning relationships between somatics, yoga, and dance are welcome. The call for presentations on the Conference Page provides more specific guidelines.
The Anasazi Ancient Pueblo people, now extinct, believed 2012 would be the year the great ones return to Zion, sacred dwelling, to further the spiritual evolution of the planet. Thus, we remember that to be great is to serve. In the conference and the workshop we will explore relationships between yoga, dance, somatic bodywork, and archetypes of transformation.
The Shin Somatics Workshop will develop Depth-Movement Dance Therapy through witnessing processes, integrating dance and art toward living consciously. Movement in depth is the original term used by Mary Whitehouse for what is generally practiced as Authentic Movement.
The Shin Somatics Workshops will teach Yoga and Bodywork based on Flow Movement Patterns and Applied Anatomy. They will also address somatic perspectives on healing trauma.
Guiding Questions: What is applied anatomy? How does it function in Yoga and Shin Somatics Bodywork. What does the listening touch imply? Are we fixing people with bodywork? Well if not, then what are we doing? When we say we work toward integration, what is being integrated? What are the qualities of well-integrated movement? What connection does moving well have to optimal living? How does effective communication relate to bodywork? What is service learning?

Sessions include Land to Water Yoga (with Chakra Unwinding), Fraleigh's unique yoga based on spiritual meanings of the body. Constancy, unconditional love, is the mother principle that supports infant movement development, and is a narrative that threads through our yoga.
