Any Eastwest Shin Somatics Workshop

Dancing Down the Bones Recommended

Practice of: Core Movement Patterning and SomaticRelease Bodywork

36 workshops hours: Introduction to Core Movement, SomaticRelease, Bodybalance and Contact Unwinding emphasizing: organic simplicity, movement and pattern, breath support, pelvic integration, lines of least resistance, cooperating with gravity, aesthetics of movement and healing, and teaching through touch

26 hours of independent study: experiential anatomy, bodymind study, somatics and healing.

Total: 62 Hours


Shin Somatics Level II

Any Eastwest Shin Somatics Workshop,Seven Core Lessons in Somatic Kinesiology recommended

Experiential Anatomy, Core Movement Patterning and SomaticRelease Bodywork

36 hours workshop hours:

Practice of Seven Core Lessons including "Walking on Air" (Featured on ISMETA web site: www.ismeta.org)

Core Lessons in Somatic Kinesiology Emphasizes: Breathing from the core, function of the primary diaphragm, touching the breath, voicing the breath through the upper respiratory tract and head, then downward into the chest and abdomen, resonating with the open center of present-centered movement (voice and touch), Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) and orientation to the environment, introduction to the concept of "the ecological self" in cognitive psychology, balancing a spiral from lying to sitting and standing (and back down), hands-on spirals in contact unwinding.


Experiential Anatomy

  • Body Balance: through the spine in arcs and spirals
  • Creating and touching a moving spiral
  • Spiral dance: phenomenology as somatic method
  • Pelvod integration: its physics and metaphysics
  • Engaging the iliopsoas in relation to the deep rotators of the hips, the breath and abdominals
  • Pelvic integration in moving (walking, running, rolling, reaching, falling, lifting,) with support from the core.


Reference Book: Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain

26 hours independent study: designing and teaching a Core Movement Lesson and demonstrating its application to hands-on Somatic Release. Includes 10 practice hours of hands-on skills, with written report of five hands-on bodywork sessions.

Eastwest Somatics Associate Levels III & IV

Any Two Eastwest Shin Somatics Workshops

Practice of Core Movement Patterning, Eastwest Somatic Yoga, Embodying Expression, Healing Dances and Integrative Bodywork.

WORKSHOP THEMES

  • Land to Water Yoga, Sondra's unique blend of yoga with somatic principles and infant developmental movement.
  • Embodying expression through image and myth.
  • Intrinsic Dance

2 levels of 62 hours each

Bridging dance and somatics through movement facilitation and movement repatterning.

Further development of Core Movement, Bodybalance, Somatic Release, and Contact Unwinding through integrative bodywork.

Total 124 Hours


Eastwest Somatics Associate Levels V, VI & VII

Any Three Eastwest Shin Somatics Workshops

EASTWEST MENTORS

3 levels of 62 hours each (36 contact hours each, and 26 independent study/practice hours each)

V & VI: Advanced students become workshop mentors while continuing to develop skill in Shin Somatics techniques and processes.

Level VII: Eastwest Teaching Semester. Students learn teaching techniques and assist in a workshop.

Total includes: Supervised Practice Teaching and Integrated Bodywork

Independent study includes: Practicum hours, and Community Service Project.

Final Case Study Project 36 hours

Total 222 hours
